Necklace stacking is one of the biggest jewellery trends right now, and has been for some time, and for good reason. It's an easy way to personalise your look, layer textures and lengths, and make a statement without trying too hard.
Here's how to do it well:
Start with a focal piece
Every great stack starts with one hero necklace, something with a pendant, a charm, or a slightly chunkier chain that anchors the look. Build everything else around it.
Play with lengths
The key to a stack that doesn't tangle or clump is varying your lengths. A good rule of thumb:
- Choker (30–35cm) — sits at the base of the neck
- Princess (40–45cm) — sits just below the collarbone
- Matinee (50–60cm) — falls mid-chest
Mixing two or three of these lengths creates natural separation and lets each piece breathe.
Mix textures, and be intentional
Combining a delicate chain with a beaded necklace or a herringbone with a box chain adds visual interest. If you're mixing metals, commit to it, alternating gold and silver can look intentional and editorial when done with purpose.
Keep it odd
Three necklaces tend to look better than two or four. Odd numbers create a more natural, effortless feel. Start with three and edit from there.
Consider your neckline
A deep V-neck calls for longer, layered chains. A crew neck or high neckline pairs better with a single choker or short pendant. Let your outfit guide the stack.
